Horizon Health Foundation
Horizon Health Care, Inc. began in 1978 with 2 clinics. Forty years later we have grown by serving nearly 28,000 patients at 32 medical and dental clinics with locations in 22 communities, and a nearly 28,000 square mile footprint across the state of South Dakota. In 2016 the Horizon Health Foundation was incorporated to meet the needs and help remove the barriers to care of Horizon Health Care, Inc. patients. Our mission is to inspire and empower our patients by providing funding for accessible and affordable health care now and into the future.
More than 40% of children have cavities by the time they reach kindergarten. About 20.5% of children ages 2-5 years have untreated decay. Even more concerning, 50% of children ages 2-5 have never seen a dentist. That’s why in February of 2018, Horizon Health Care, Inc. piloted a children’s oral health campaign focused on bringing children ages 0-5 into the dental clinic for a FREE preventative screening which included an exam, fluoride treatment, and cleaning. The project was a HUGE success! Our dental clinics saw 162 patients ages 0-5, 70% were new patients, and 20% of the children seen had decay identified during the exam. In that one month promotion, our dentists saw 56% of the children we typically see during an entire calendar year. To offer a comparison regarding the success and replication of this program, in 2017 we saw 289 children during the year for a preventative exam.
The foundation will participate in South Dakota’s first ever giving day, #ForSouthDakota. We will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back to children in need in our rural and frontier communities across South Dakota. Dollars raised will help children ages 0-5 with a free dental screening. The screening includes a dental exam, cleaning, and fluoride treatment.
Our Goal: Raise $10,000 from 300 individuals, and business/corporate donors to help children in need. Will you please consider joining our efforts and becoming a club member? All club members will be recognized.
